Sue Johnston-Wilder

Associate Professor

Sue Johnston-Wilder is Associate Professor of Mathematics Education at the University of Warwick and a Coach for Mathematical Resilience. Her main research interest is developing mathematical resilience, and she works with teachers, learners, support staff and parents. She is also interested in making mathematics more accessible and enjoyable, including through the history of maths and software for learning.

Sue co-developed the Mathematical Resilience framework, which draws on psychology to address maths anxiety. Her work focuses on helping young people build coping skills early, ask for support, develop a growth mindset, accept struggle as part of learning and value learning itself. She champions kindness and support in the classroom, emotional safeguarding and well-resourced learning spaces.
